The National Water Research Institute of Malaysia (NAHRIM) was invited by the Pahang State Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) to a meeting for the presentation of data findings, analysis, and the sharing of NAHRIM’s expertise regarding river and coastal water quality monitoring in the state of Pahang. The meeting was chaired by YBrs Ir. Arman bin Mokhtar, the State Director, while the NAHRIM delegation was led by YBrs En. Noor Hisham bin Abdul Ghani, Director of the Water Quality Laboratory. The delegation also included representatives from the River Basin Research Centre, the Water Resources and Climate Change Research Centre, and the Coastal and Oceanography Research Centre.Generally, discussions focused on the current status of river and coastal water quality in Pahang, particularly during dry seasons, as well as pre- and post-monsoon conditions. Additionally, the meeting addressed the potential reuse of river sediments for beach nourishment in eroded areas, and the best operational strategies for water resource storage to mitigate forest fires in peatland areas. To strengthen future cooperation, JPS Pahang will fully utilize NAHRIM’s expertise in integrated river routing simulations and tidal dynamics to assess hydrodynamic impacts on water quality within estuarine zones
