SESI PENGUJIAN PERALATAN MULTI-BEAM ECHO SOUNDER (MBES) DI PERAIRAN PELABUHAN KLANG - 16 APRIL 2026

NAHRIM through the Coastal & Oceanography Research Centre (PKPO), conducted a Multi-Beam Echo Sounder (MBES) equipment testing session in the waters of Port Klang. Led by Hydrographer, Mr. Tarmizi Alwi, the session serves as preparation for generating high-resolution seabed depth profiles to support national marine research and planning.

The session involved a Patch Test to calibrate and correct system errors such as roll, pitch, yaw, and timing ensuring the geometric accuracy of the data. This was complemented by the use of an integrated satellite-communication GNSS system to obtain high-precision observation coordinates (X, Y). Depth values (Z) were recorded via MBES acoustic signal emissions, processed by accounting for water sound velocity and tidal corrections.

Overall, the integration of vessel position, depth, and orientation data enables the production of accurate, high-quality bathymetric data. This serves as a vital foundation for hydrodynamic modelling, seabed change analysis, and national maritime development and safety planning.
