Hydrogeology Research Centre (PKH), National Water Research Institute of Malaysia (NAHRIM), attended the Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Enhancement Meeting 2026 organised by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) at Menara PETRA, Putrajaya. The programme was attended by representatives from divisions, departments, and agencies under PETRA to enhance understanding and strengthen collaboration in the implementation of the IWRM approach in Malaysia. Meanwhile, the NAHRIM team consisted of five officers led by Dr. Zati Sharip, Director of the Hydrogeology Research Centre.
Throughout the programme, participants were exposed to various aspects of integrated water resources management, including IWRM principles and implementation, AIR2040 and the water sector priority areas, challenges related to floods and droughts arising from climate change, water sector governance, Integrated River Basin Management (IRBM), implementation of the Environmental Friendly Drainage Master Plan (PISMA), disaster risk reduction, as well as IWRM monitoring and evaluation strategies.
The programme also featured a panel session entitled “About IWRM”, which highlighted the sharing of experiences and best practices in water resources management. Overall, the programme enhanced participants’ understanding of IWRM implementation and strengthened collaboration among related agencies towards achieving more sustainable, resilient, and integrated water resources management in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the National Water Policy and the nation’s water security aspirations.
