The Coastal and Oceanography Research Centre (PKPO) NAHRIM attended the 27th Meeting of the ASEAN Working Group on Coastal and Marine Environment (AWGCME) and its related sessions (3rd Project Steering Committee Meeting of ASEANO2 & 7th Project Steering Committee Meeting of SEA-MaP) from 9 to 11 June 2026. The Malaysian delegation to these meetings was also accompanied by representatives from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES), the Department of Environment (JAS), and the Department of Fisheries Malaysia (DOF).
The meetings deliberated on various critical agendas concerning the coastal and marine environment, alongside strengthening strategic regional cooperation among ASEAN member states. Key discussion topics included sea-based debris mitigation, climate change adaptations, potential technical integration and operational synergies, the hosting of regional forums or workshops, and national framework reporting.
