A meeting between NAHRIM’s Coastal and Oceanography Research Centre (PKPO) and the Terengganu Water Resources Authority (LAUT) was held on June 11, 2026. Chaired by the Director of LAUT, Puan Safura Mad Juhari, the meeting aimed to present the research findings on Saltwater Intrusion in Sungai Dungun, as alongside proposed research on Desalination on Pulau Redang.
NAHRIM’s presentation began with sharing the results of the saltwater intrusion study, which utilized 1D analytical modeling to predict the impacts of the phenomenon on the Dungun River. This comprehensive study aims to understand saltwater intrusion patterns in the estuary area, thereby formulating optimal mitigation strategies to guarantee the security and sustainability of clean water resources for the residents of Terengganu.
In principle, LAUT expressed full support for the implementation of the desalination research on Pulau Redang. This strategic cooperation between NAHRIM and LAUT is vital to ensuring that the state’s water resource management remains sustainable and resilient in confronting the challenges of climate change.
