26 FEBRUARY 2026 | RETRIEVAL OPERATION OF ACOUSTIC WAVE AND CURRENT PROFILER (AWAC) IN COASTAL WATERS OF DESARU, EAST JOHOR
NAHRIM through the Coastal & Oceanography Research Centre (PKPO), continues to bolster its strategic role as the sole National Current Data Provider following the successful retrieval of Acoustic Wave and Current Profiler (AWAC). This instrument has continuously captured data for seven months (July 2025 – February 2026) in the coastal waters of Desaru, East Johor.
This equipment is a vital component of the nation’s long-term marine monitoring network, recording high-precision wave and current parameters to support sea-level rise studies, coastal engineering, navigational safety, and the development of national hydrodynamic models. The strategically valuable data obtained not only strengthens scientific analysis and coastal infrastructure planning but also serves as the foundation for the development of the Malaysia Marine Digital Twin and the migration of navigational charts toward a more dynamic and responsive digital system.
This ongoing commitment reflects NAHRIM’s technical expertise and dedication to providing authentic, timely, and high-integrity data for the benefit of the nation, coastal communities, and the sustainability of the maritime economy.
