GROUND-BREAKING CEREMONY AND LAUNCH OF THE NEW 120MW POWER PLANT PROJECT | 27 JANUARY 2026 | LABUAN
YAB Datuk Sri Amar Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), officiated the Ground-Breaking Ceremony and Launch of the 120MW Power Plant Project at the Rancha-Rancha Industrial Area, Federal Territory of Labuan today. The ceremony was also attended by YB Datuk Ts. Mustapha Sakmud, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak), YB Datuk Lo Su Fui, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), YBhg. Dato’ Sri Haji Mad Zaidi bin Mohd Karli, Secretary-General of PETRA, YB Datuk Indera Dr. Suhaili bin Abdul Rahman, Member of Parliament for Labuan, as well as other industry leaders.
The development of this new power plant reflects the Federal Government’s firm commitment to ensuring energy security and the reliability of the electricity supply system in Labuan through the approach of “transition, not disruption.” The project, led by the strategic joint venture company Rancha Power Sdn. Bhd., will replace existing power generation assets that have been in operation since the early 1980s, thereby serving as a critical transition infrastructure to support the growing energy demand from industrial activities and the local community.
In addition to acting as an economic catalyst and a strategic international financial hub, the strengthening of Labuan’s energy infrastructure is also aligned with the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) agenda in enhancing regional energy resilience.
