The Coastal and Oceanography Research Centre (PKPO), NAHRIM recently participated in the “Cherish the Nature” Mangrove Restoration Program organized by IUCN-CHERY-MNS at Kuala Selangor Nature Park. This 18-month sustainability initiative across the Selangor coastline is a strategic collaboration supported by Chery International, managed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and implemented by the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS). PKPO’s involvement underscores a steadfast commitment to the restoration and preservation of the nation’s vital natural heritage.
Beyond mangrove planting and exhibitions, the program serves as a significant platform for the exchange of scientific research findings and practical experiences between researchers and the public. Central to this project is the active engagement of local communities and stakeholders, ensuring long-term ecosystem resilience, fostering sustainable livelihoods, and advancing environmental education. This collective effort is instrumental in building a robust natural defense for our coastlines, safeguarding them against the escalating impacts of global climate change.
