The Coastal and Oceanography Research Centre (PKPO) of NAHRIM conducted a Stakeholder Engagement Session on Seawater Desalination Research with Syarikat Air Terengganu Sdn. Bhd. (SATU) on 10 June 2026. The meeting took place in the SATU Operations Room at the SATU Headquarters in Kuala Terengganu and was chaired by Ts. Ahmad Zaki Najmuddin, the Head of the Project and Contract Section. This initiative aimed to gather preliminary insights into the potential of this technology as an alternative clean water source for domestic and commercial use specifically for resort operators on Pulau Redang. Additionally, the session served as a platform to collect baseline water supply data and assess projected additional demand to support the island’s existing requirements.
The session commenced with an introduction to NAHRIM’s profile as a research agency under the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), focusing on water and its environment. As a result of the discussion, SATU expressed its fundamental support and stated there are no objections for NAHRIM to carry out this research on Pulau Redang.
