NAHRIM remains committed to leading the nation’s water research, including exploring strategic collaborations in the maritime sector with Penang Port Sdn. Bhd. On 14 July 2026, the NAHRIM delegation led by Deputy Director-General YBrs. Ir. Ts. Gs. Dr. Safari bin Hj Mat Desa, held a working visit and meeting session with the Senior Management of Penang Port Sdn. Bhd. in Butterworth.
The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss coastal hydrodynamic modeling, sedimentation, and erosion studies. These studies are critical to ensuring the sustainability and safety of operations at the Penang Port Terminal, Penang North Channel, and shipping lane areas.
The NAHRIM delegation highly appreciates the invitation and trust extended by Penang Port Sdn. Bhd. The session to exchange views and discuss the scope of study, technical requirements, and implementation approaches was highly productive. It is hoped that this collaboration will not only achieve the objectives of the study but also further strengthen the synergy between government research agencies and key industry players for the sustainability of the nation’s port and coastal infrastructure.
