8 January 2026 | The National Water Research Institute of Malaysia (NAHRIM) participated in a site visit and briefing for the Penang Flood Mitigation Project by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) at Solok Van Praagh. The visit was led by YBhg. Dato Rodzwan Bin Mohd Baba, Deputy Secretary-General (WATER), Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA).
The visit aimed to review the progress of the project planned to address flash flood issues, which is one of the government’s critical initiatives in tackling flash floods in the Northeast district. The project involves new drainage systems such as the diversion drain at Jalan Hamilton and Taman Solok Van Praagh to streamline water flow into the Sungai Jelutong. The project is expected to have a significant positive impact on the well-being of residents in flood hotspot areas such as Solok Van Praagh and Jalan Sir Ibrahim.
NAHRIM extends its appreciation to all parties involved in ensuring the success of this programme.
