13 March 2026 | Researchers from NAHRIM’s Centre for Water Resources and Climate Change Studies held a virtual strategic discussion session with sustainability consultancy, Chemsain.
The main focus of the discussion was to refine the adaptation component for the Sarawak Climate Change Policy study led by the Sarawak Ministry of Natural Resources & Urban Development (MUDENR).
Through this session, NAHRIM shared its expertise on the Big Data Analytics (BDA): Malaysia Adaptation Index (MAIN) project. MAIN is an important instrument developed to assess the vulnerability and readiness of each state in Malaysia to the impacts of climate change.
To ensure a more accurate assessment for the state of Sarawak, discussions also focused on resolving the state’s data gaps, which include:
Water Infrastructure: Harmonizing state water management operational records such as Non-Returnable Water (NRW) Rates and Water Treatment Plant capacity.
Recovery Cost Readiness: Completing the Sarawak State Government’s disaster management and recovery budget allocation data.
Education Budget: Obtaining detailed data on specific education sector allocations from state funds.
Synergy and accurate data sharing are crucial to help policymakers formulate a more holistic climate action plan.
