26 NOVEMBER 2025 | SPITE PROGRAM PRESENTATION MEETING: PLANT-BASED WATER TREATMENT COAGULANT — A SUSTAINABLE ALTERNATIVE TO ALUMINIUM SULFATE

On 26 November 2025, Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) presented a significant innovation in water treatment technology: a plant-based coagulant that offers a greener, safer and more sustainable alternative to the conventional use of aluminium sulfate.

The meeting was chaired by YBhg. Datuk Ir. Abdul Kadir Mohd Din, Chairman of SPAN, who also provided valuable technical input and strategic perspectives throughout the discussion.
The session further received technical evaluation from
YBhg. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Nasehir Khan E. M. Yahya, Acting Director-General of NAHRIM.

This innovation paves the way for safer and more sustainable water treatment solutions, in line with the national agenda to reduce dependence on chemical-based agents, minimise sludge production, and protect communities and the environment.
