Director General of NAHRIM, Ir. Hj. Ahmad Jamalluddin bin Shaaban headed a working visit to Bishan Park, Singapore on 15th August 2011. The main objective of the visit is to expose NAHRIM researchers on ‘Integrated Waterscape’ that has successfully been applied to an engineered recreational lake and river system which is in harmony with its ecosystem, thereby improving its water quality and its water environment. The visit were joined by Ir. Mohd Zaki Mat Amin, the Director of Research Centre of Water Resources, Dr. Pauziah Hanum Abd Ghani, the Director of Research Centre for Water Quality and Environment and a few research officers. |
A short briefing on the project was presented and followed by a technical visit around Bishan Park to observe its various components such as; application of bioengineering techniques, cleansing biotopes, green roof, vegetated swales, constructed/floating wetlands, and bioponds. Discussion was also focused on the application of the Standard Operating Procedure for the purpose of managing the lake and its surrounding catchment area which includes operating the biotope for treatment of the water from the lake, water quality monitoring, flora and fauna biodiversity monitoring, fertilizer management, sewage and sullage treatment system as well as sharing of information on storm water, rain water and soil erosion management. |
