5 April 2013 – NAHRIM received 18 delegates from Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (SYABAS). The delegation headed by Mr. Roskhamdi Kamaluddin, Water Quality Manager of SYABAS was welcomed by Director General of NAHRIM, Ir. Hj. Ahmad Jamalluddin bin Shaaban, with Division Directors and senior research officers.

The programme started by the delivery of welcoming speech by YBrs. Ir. Hj. Ahmad Jamalluddin bin Shaaban, Director General of NAHRIM, followed by a presentation by officer from SYABAS as part of their water quality awareness programme besides explaining their scope of work pertaining to water services.

The programme was then continued with a visit to the Hydraulic and Instrumentation Laboratory. At the end of the programme, an engagement session between SYABAS and NAHRIM chaired by Director of Research Centre for Water Quality and Environment, NAHRIM was held to discuss the possibilities of cooperation between both organisations through physical modelling projects.

A visit led by the Director General NAHRIM, Y. Brs. Ir. Hj. Ahmad Jamalluddin Bin Shaaban was held to the Pelabuhan Miri, Sarawak on 19th April 2013. The visit was aimed to get a better perspective related to port operation’s aspects and to discuss opportunities for bilateral cooperation between the Miri Port Authority (Miri Port) and NAHRIM. This visit is one of a series of visits initiated by NAHRIM to promote Hydraulic and Instrumentation Laboratory services and facilities and research capabilities related to the operation of ports and harbours.

The visit was also joined by Ir. Hj. Mohd Radzi Abd. Hamid, Director of Coastal Research Centre (PKP), Tn. Hj. Abdul Mubin Bin Harun, Director of Planning and Evaluation Division (BPP) and senior researchers from Hydraulic and Instrumentation Laboratory (MHI),PKP and BPP.  Miri Port was led by its General manager, Y.Brs. Mr. Shebli bin Hairani, with members of its top management Ir. Steven Chin (Senior Manager Operations, Engineering and Marine Services), Madam Serawa Budol (Senior Manager Business Development Services) and Madam Chin Oi Thim (Manager, Administration and Finance).

During the visit, Miri Port Authority gave a briefing on the history of Miri Port, the progress it has achieved so far; and also its future plans in line with the rapid development of the Sarawak shipping industry.  Miri Port, with an area of ​​94 hectares and 6 dock of 390m length each, has handled 1400 metric tonne bulk cargo annually.  A presentation was also given by NAHRIM, focusing on NAHRIM’s functions, administrative structure, including facilities and services available in MHI.  NAHRIM’s research expertise in coastal and port studies was also presented briefly by the Director of Coastal Research Centre.
