Sinopsis Buku ini membicarakan secara praktikal cara-cara membangunkan sebuah model hidrodinamik sungai dengan menumpu kepada aspek banjir bermula dengan cara-cara memasukkan data keratan rentas sungai sehingga ke peringkat menjalankan analisis dan kerja rekabentuk. Buku ini bertujuan memberikan panduan asas kepada Jurutera Hidraulik Jurutera Sungai, perunding dan juga pelajar kejuruteraan awam di peringkat universiti mengenai kaedah dan langkah-langkah asas yang diperlukan untuk membangunkan model hidrologi dan hidrodinamik sungai. Setelah kita dapat membangunkan model yang lengkap, kita boleh mempelajari dan memahami perlakuan aliran sungai semasa banjir. Berdasarkan pengetahuan tentang perlakuan aliran banjir ini adalah diharapkan sebarang aktiviti di kawasan tadahan atau di lembangan sungai dapat dikaji dengan lebih tepat supaya tindakan awal boleh dilaksanakan. Tindakan ini memberikan kesan atau impak yang minima kepada sistem sungai itu sendiri khususnya dan penduduk sekitar amnya. Sg Juru telah digunakan didalam proses membangunkan model sungai dan penggguna akan dibekalkan dengan maklumat kerjaukur lengkap sistem sungai tersebut termasuk peta-peta yang berkaitan seperti sungai, jalan, gunatanah dalam CD yang disertakan. Model sungai yang lengkap juga dibekalkan bagi membolehkan pengguna membuat rujukan dan perbandingan. Buku ini tidak bercadang menggantikan mana-mana buku teknikal berkaitan hidraulik. Sinopsis An effect of the El Nino / Southern Oscillation (ENSO) phenomenon is the shifting of rainfall patterns over different regions of the world. Much of South East Asia and parts of Australia experience dry conditions during an ENS0 event, leading to drought conditions in many areas. The 1997-1998 low rainfalls associated with the ENS0 event affected some parts of Malaysia such as Kuala Lumpur, Malacca, Selangor, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, Sarawak and Sabah. The low river flows caused by the drought and water pollution at the intakes coupled with the tight water demand-supply situation prompted the Selangor State government to impose water rationing to 1.8 million residents in Klang Langat River Basins from April to September 1998. Similarly, in Kelantan the dry conditions in March to May 1998 resulted in a low river flow and level of Sg. Kelantan until KADA's Lemal pump house could not pump the river water for the routine off-season paddy irrigation. To raise the river level KADA had to build a temporary sand embankment across Sg. Kelantan. This memorable drought event underscores the need for a national understanding of drought, its prediction and impact and management so as to minimise adverse effects to Malaysia's socio-economic activities. The main purpose of the workshop is therefore:To have a better understanding of the nature of drought and its impacts to the country and its management in the short and long term, and effecting better management of droughts in Malaysia through mitigation actions in the form of policies, activities, plans and programs. Specifically drought mitigation tools such as the following need to be explored and implemented where appropriate: - Assessment Programs
