NAHRIM, as the national research center for water and its environment is committed to achieve its Vision, which is to provide excellent water R&D services for ensuring sustainable national development to the benefit of Malaysian citizens and elevation of their quality of life.
Research and development (R&D) led by NAHRIM currently encompasses R&D in river and coastal engineering; water resources management including rainwater and groundwater; impact of climate change on national water resources and development of adaptation measures; and rivers and lakes water quality enhancement and management. Apart from R&D, NAHRIM also carries out niche water related consultancies for both government and private sectors agencies.
Every research based organisation, in particular world renowned hydraulic laboratories, had already recognised the importance of a hydraulic laboratory to compliment any studies conducted in the same field. This laboratory will provide support and solid contribution to NAHRIM in its effort to become the National Focal Centre in water related research. On this basis, the Hydraulic and Instrumentation Laboratory (MHI) was established to undertake basic and applied R&D, particularly by means of physical modeling methods. Fully operational in 2007, MHI which has a working area of 12,000 square meters, is well equipped with various facilities to conduct research in physical modeling in various fields such as dams, rivers, coastal and oceans.
