INTRODUCTION

The National Hydraulic Research Institute of Malaysia, or NAHRIM was setup in September, 1995 under the Ministry of Agriculture, with capabilities in both physical and numerical simulations of hydrodynamic, morphological and ecological processes and their interactions with human activities.

NAHRIM is now under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment from April 2004. Presently, we have an establishment of six technical divisions and one administrative and finance division. We are building the NAHRIM buildings and laboratories near Putrajaya, the government's new administrative center and is completed by 2004.

NAHRIM offers specialist in project planning, impact assessment and research in all facets of hydraulic engineering that encompass river engineering, coastal/port engineering, water resources development and water quality and environment.

NAHRIM maintains an excellent network of collaborators in allied fields (both local and foreign) that serves as an expert pool that can be readily tapped when the need arises. Further to this, NAHRIM's R&D endeavors are well supported by product development and marketing initiatives and backed up by state-of-the-art information technology and instrumentation capabilities.

• Developing NAHRIM as the national knowledge resource center for water and its environment which is fully equipped with all R&D facilities for its internal and external clients
• Providing professional services on water and its environment with the best quality in planning, design, implementation, and management within the specified time frame.
• Providing professional services based on applied science principles and strong engineering for the management of reliable water resources taking into account the nation's socio economy.
• To give feedbacks to complaints on river problems and beachfronts within 72 hours.
• Providing feedbacks and technical comments related to water and its environment within 4 weeks.
• Providing continuous corporate management services.

OUR MAIN FUNCTION

• To act as the National Focal Point on water and its environment research by coordinating related national research and participating in bilateral and multilateral international research activities.
• To provide advisory services on water and its environment matters in line with national interests.
