Site Visit Report to Lake Chini and Nenasi Water Treatment Plant Pahang. August 20 – 21, 2014.

    A site visit delegation from NAHRIM to Tasik Chini and Nenasi water treatment plant, Pahang consisting of 10 participants was held on 20 - 21 August 2014. This trip was led by Deputy Director General of NAHRIM, Dr Saim Suratman. This visit was also attended by staff from the Department of Mineral and Geoscience (JMG), Pahang. The objective of this visit was to:

  • assess the current status and to examine the causes that contribute to the deterioration of water quality of the lake;
  • determine a suitable location for the construction of monitoring wells at Tasik Chini; and
  • know the water treatment methods and the main problem frequently faced particularly in the water treatment plant.
    This visit was since the lake is a heritage site with the socio-economic interests such as recreation, eco-tourism and freshwater fishery resources and ecology and is also a first UNESCO biosphere reserve site in Malaysia. Therefore, sustainable management measures will be identified to be implemented so that it is protected and sustainable.
 
    Meanwhile, a visit to the Nenasi water treatment plant is important to know the method used to treat groundwater for drinking water supply and planning of water resource development. Thus, the sustainable groundwater abstraction is necessary in order to control the quality and quantity is assured in the future as it is close to the shoreline.
