Project Details :

Issues of river pollution and water extraction from Selangor River have been treated as the factors affecting the decrease of fireflies’ population in Selangor River.  The Berembang trees, the natural habitat for fireflies need a little quantity of salts to live.  This research is aim to examine the effect of water extraction along Selangor River to the salt water behaviors in the river system.  The hydrodynamic modelling could help to evaluate the impact of salt water intrusion to the Berembang trees.   

Objective :

• To develop 1 Dimensional numerical modeling using unsteady flow to study the flow and salt water of Selangor River
• To study parameters affecting the salt water behaviors in the river system
