The trip was to see the rationale for water-related research to be conducted in the area. Peat swamp forests are tropical soils naturally always flooded and are usually found in the river basin, delta and estuary. This type of forests acts as the pit and the water supplier which has the capacity for absorbing water like a sponge. Human activities such as exploitation for timber and agricultural land reclamation are threatening these peat swamps. Threatened Peat swamp forests tends to be dry and at high risk for massive burns.
