Official Opening of Kuala Lumpur Perdana Botanical Garden by The Honourable Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato' Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak, 28 June 2011.

     Taman Tasik Perdana was renamed Taman Botani Perdana by Honourable Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak on the 28 June 2011. This is part of a programme to turn the 122-year-old lake garden into a world class botanical garden. The lake garden which had existed since 1888 completed the first phase of its modification last year which cost RM18 million by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

     Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak, in his speech, said the lake garden brought back childhood memories for him because he grew up close by at Sri Taman, the official residence of his father, the late Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, the country's second Prime Minister. He congratulated Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) for improving the lake, including the quality of water, in six months.

     At the same event, Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak accompanied by the Minister of Federal Territory and Urban Wellbeing and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, visit lake water quality conservation project’s, one of DBKL’s upgrading project with the cooperation from NAHRIM. NAHRIM’s Director General, brief the Prime Minister on the project that has successfully increased the water quality from Class IV to Class II using biological friendly method such as Water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes), Climbing perch (Anabas testudineus), Big head carp (Hypophthalmichthys nobilis) bio-flocculants and coagulation as well as effective microorganism. As a symbolic on the improvement of water quality index, the Prime Minister released Temoleh fish into the lake.

     The botanical garden covering 101.2 hectares was a symbol of the country's commitment to preserving the environment.
