Technical Visit to Biogas Plant Managed by SP Multitech Renewable Energy (M) Sdn. Bhd. by Director General of NAHRIM on 16th December 2013.

on . Posted in Archives of Activities 2013

A visit led by the Director General of NAHRIM, YBrs. Ir. Hj. Ahmad Jamalluddin Bin Shaaban to two biogas plants managed by SP Multitech Renewable Energy Sdn. Bh.d was held on 16 December 2013. The objective of the technical visit was to visualize the operational part and technology process of biogas production. The two biogas plants visited were the poultry farm at Pajam, Negeri Sembilan and cow farm at Semenyih.

The visit was also joined by Ir. Icahri Chatta, from Hydraulic and Instrumentation Laboratory (MHI), Puan Syazrin Syima Sharifuddin from Water Quality Laboratory (MKA) and a few NAHRIM’s officers. SP Multitech Renewable Energy Sdn. Bhd. was headed by its Managing Director, Mr William Tan with members of its top management. During the visit, SP Multitech also gave a presentation and briefing on the processes involved with its function in producing the biogas. In summary, microorganisms transform the organic waste material into biogas energy production through the process of anaerobic digestion. 70 tonne of chicken dropping can produce 5000m³ biogas per day and generate 500kw of electricity. Waste that has been fully digested exits the biogas system in the form of organic fertiliser.

Discussion concluded to potential collaboration on research and product development involves biogas production from different sources of organic waste material. Besides generating the renewable energy (methane gas for cooking and electricity), this area of research will help in improving the water quality of rivers, lakes and resevoir by recycling organic waste and also reduce greenhouse gases (methane).
