Technical Vistit to Bintulu Port Authority, Sarawak bt Director General of NAHRIM on May 23, 2013.

    May 23 - A visit led by the Director General NAHRIM, Y. Brs. Ir. Hj. Ahmad Jamalluddin Bin Shaaban to Bintulu Port Authority(LPB), Sarawak was held on 23 May 2013. The objective of the visit was to get a better perspective on problems and challenges related to port operations, sedimentation and erosion problems at the surrounding areas and to discuss opportunities for bilateral cooperation between the Bintulu Port Authority and NAHRIM.

    This visit is one of a series initiated by NAHRIM to promote the services and facilities of Hydraulic and Instrumentation Laboratory and expertise and research capabilities of Research Centres related to erosion and sedimentation at the estuarine and coastal areas, the effectiveness of designed water infrastructures and the operation of ports and harbours.
    The visit was also joined by Ir. Hj. Mohd Radzi Abd. Hamid, Director of Research Centre for Coastal Management (PKP), Ir. Dr. Nasehir Khan, Director of Research Centre for River Management (PKS), Ir. Hj. Mohd Fauzi Mohamad, Director of Hydraulic and Instrumentation Laboratory (MHI) and Tn. Hj. Abdul Mubin Bin Harun, Director of Planning and Evaluation Division (BPP).

   The program began with the groups brought by land to view the port amenities and followed by boat ride around the basin.

   LPB was headed by Ir. Mohd Zawawi Kifli, Engineering Manager, En Mohd Yoshikatriezan Abeng Senior Marine Officer, Abdul Mutalib Faisal bin Lampong, Mechanical Engineer and Cik Nur Rashiqah Bte Suhaili – Electrical Engineer. The groups were presented with the corporate video show of LPB containing information on the history of the establishment, mission, vision, objectives and role of the Office as well as the organizational chart and staffing.

   A presentation was also given by NAHRIM, focusing on NAHRIM’s functions, administrative structure, including facilities and services available in MHI, NAHRIM’s research expertise in coastal and port studies and estuarine was also presented briefly by the Director of Hydraulic and Instrumentation Laboratory, Director of Research Centre for Coastal Management and Director of Research Centre for River Management.

   From further discussions, Bintulu Port Authority has hinted on the opportunities of NAHRIM’s involvement in the future development plan of Bintulu Port as a whole, especially on proposed extension on LNG Berth and its related hydraulic study. Future potential research between NAHRIM/Bintulu Port would be in physical and numerical modelling for port projects, together with application of SMADRAT for pollution control at source from entering the port area through the drainage system and nearby river.
