| July 9, 2012 – NAHRIM received a delegation of eight from water resources commissions under the Ministry of Water Resources (MWR), Republic of China. The delegation headed by Mr. Qian Min, Director General of the Huai River Water Resources Commission (HRWC) was welcomed by Ir. Hj. Ahmad Jamalluddin bin Shaaban, Director General of NAHRIM with Division directors and senior officers.
| During the visit, both parties had the opportunity to introduce themselves. According to Mr. Qian Min, under the Ministry of Water Resources China, there are seven government agencies managing the river basins, such as HRWC, Changjiang Water Resources Commission, Yellow River Conservancy Commission, Hai River Water Resources Commission, Pearl River Water Resources Commission, Songliao River Water Resources Commission and Taihu Basin Authority. HRWC headquarters in Bengbu City, is responsible of Huai River basin water administration. Huai River stretches along 1,100 km and irrigate an area of 174,000 km² covering some parts of Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu, Shandong and Hubei provinces.
|The visit is a recognition to NAHRIM as the national water research institution which is gaining attention, especially in the areas of impact of climate change research. According to Mr. Qian Min, research on impacts of climate change receive less attention in China even though all over the world including China is being impacted. The visit concludes with a discussion on climate change research and management of water resources in Malaysia and the possibility of cooperation between both organisations.|
